In 2022, the Hungarian crude coconut oil market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a significant increase. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crude coconut oil exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 12,526% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Croatia (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) were the main destinations of crude coconut oil exports from Hungary, together comprising 49% of total exports. Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Italy, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.

From 2013 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +171.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Serbia ($X), Croatia ($X) and Slovakia ($X) constituted the largest markets for crude coconut oil exported from Hungary worldwide, together comprising 47% of total exports.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +180.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average crude coconut oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -8.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 26%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of crude coconut (copra) oil was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, imports saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 559% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crude coconut oil imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 246% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) was the main crude coconut oil supplier to Hungary, accounting for a 96% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 1.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to +44.6%.
