In 2022, supplies from abroad of cucumbers and gherkins decreased by -38.5% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 39%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, cucumber and gherkin imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In 2022, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cucumber and gherkin to Hungary, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, cucumber and gherkin imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Romania (X tons), fivefold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
