In 2022, imports of durum wheat into Hungary surged to X tons, rising by 734% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, durum wheat imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 849%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Slovakia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of durum wheat to Hungary, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, durum wheat imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Austria (X tons), with a 14% share.

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of durum wheat to Hungary, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Austria ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Slovakia amounted to +100.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+47.6% per year) and Ukraine (+5,516.6% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 51% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
