In 2021, the amount of expansible polystyrene in primary forms imported into Hungary surged to X tons, jumping by 16% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, expansible polystyrene imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a strong expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest expansible polystyrene supplier to Hungary, with a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, expansible polystyrene imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X tons), fourfold. Iran (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.8% share.
