The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Romania (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Croatia (X tons) were the main destinations of flat glass exports from Hungary, together comprising 54% of total exports. These countries were followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Slovenia, Greece, Poland and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 35%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kosovo (with a CAGR of +32.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for flat glass exported from Hungary were Romania ($X), Serbia ($X) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with a combined 43% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Croatia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Slovenia, Greece, Turkey and Poland, which together accounted for a further 31%.
Kosovo, with a CAGR of +64.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average flat glass export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 32% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kosovo (+24.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary
In 2021, purchases abroad of flat glass increased by 12% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +73.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 25%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, flat glass imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest flat glass supplier to Hungary, accounting for a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, flat glass imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fourfold. Romania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland totaled +6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+6.0% per year) and Romania (+45.9% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of flat glass to Hungary, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Romania, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland amounted to +7.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+1.4% per year) and Romania (+51.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average flat glass import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
