Lithuania (X tons) was the main destination for flax fiber exports from Hungary, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, flax fiber exports to Lithuania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Lithuania totaled +14.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (-3.7% per year) and Italy (+18.3% per year).
In value terms, Lithuania ($X) remains the key foreign market for flax fiber exports from Hungary, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Lithuania stood at +17.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (-2.5% per year) and Italy (+19.0% per year).

Imports into Hungary
In 2022, approx. X tons of flax fiber were imported into Hungary; waning by -22.5% on the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, flax fiber imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 47%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Lithuania (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of flax fiber to Hungary, accounting for a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, flax fiber imports from Lithuania exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X tons), sixfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Lithuania totaled +13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+12.9% per year) and Italy (+21.6% per year).
In value terms, Lithuania ($X) constituted the largest supplier of flax fiber to Hungary, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 17% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Lithuania stood at +13.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+30.1% per year) and Egypt (+6.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average flax fiber import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 17%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
