In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Hungarian market for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines, when its value increased by 67% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines decreased by -62.1% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, exports recorded a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 388% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports shrank sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a sharp descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 479% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kosovo (X tons) was the main destination for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports from Hungary, with a 54% share of total exports. Moreover, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports to Kosovo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X tons), twofold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Kosovo stood at -74.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+429.4% per year) and Spain (+125.5% per year).
In value terms, Ukraine ($X) remains the key foreign market for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines exports from Hungary, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Ukraine totaled +203.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+62.8% per year) and the Czech Republic (+26.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 133%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kosovo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+171.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Hungary
In 2021, supplies from abroad of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight setback. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, France (X tons) constituted the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine supplier to Hungary, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Romania (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (X tons), with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from France stood at +65.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Romania (-22.7% per year) and Poland (+76.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine suppliers to Hungary were France ($X), Poland ($X) and Romania ($X), with a combined 75% share of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, France, with a CAGR of +58.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 45% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine import price increased by +74.2% against 2018 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
