Gas Supply Meter Market Size in Hungary

For the third year in a row, the Hungarian gas supply meter market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 7.1% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. Gas supply meter consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, gas supply meter production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 267% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X units of gas supply or production meters were exported from Hungary; shrinking by -17.8% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 1,027%. The exports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, gas supply meter exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 192% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X units) was the main destination for gas supply meter exports from Hungary, with a 42% share of total exports. Moreover, gas supply meter exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X units), with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands stood at -24.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+43.3% per year) and the UK (+203.1% per year).

In value terms, the UK ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Belgium ($X) constituted the largest markets for gas supply meter exported from Hungary worldwide, with a combined 83% share of total exports. Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Croatia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +260.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average gas supply meter export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Hungary

In 2021, purchases abroad of gas supply or production meters increased by 52% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 223%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, gas supply meter imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Germany (X units), Poland (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main suppliers of gas supply meter imports to Hungary, together accounting for 95% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +62.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Austria ($X) constituted the largest gas supply meter suppliers to Hungary, together accounting for 94% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy and France, which together accounted for a further 5.3%.

Italy, with a CAGR of +50.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average gas supply meter import price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 33% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a deep slump. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the price for France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
