In 2021, approx. X tons of graphite (natural) were exported from Hungary; increasing by 515% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 324,555% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, graphite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the sixth consecutive year, Hungary recorded growth in supplies from abroad of graphite (natural), which increased by 27% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 1,003% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, graphite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 2,459%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, Japan (X tons) constituted the largest graphite supplier to Hungary, accounting for a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, graphite imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), sevenfold.

The average graphite import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -6.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 132%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
