Wool Grease Market Size in Hungary

In general, exports showed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 2,510% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wool grease exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1,236%. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Slovenia (X kg) was the main destination for wool grease exports from Hungary, with a 92% share of total exports. Moreover, wool grease exports to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (X kg), more than tenfold.

From 2014 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovenia totaled +21.3%.

In value terms, Slovenia ($X) remains the key foreign market for wool grease and fatty substances exports from Hungary, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports.

From 2014 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Slovenia totaled +11.3%.

In 2022, the average wool grease export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -2.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 183%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic amounted to $X per ton.

Imports into Hungary

In 2022, the amount of wool grease and fatty substances imported into Hungary surged to X tons, increasing by 22% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 89%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wool grease imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest wool grease supplier to Hungary, accounting for a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, wool grease imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), fivefold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany amounted to +35.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+7.9% per year) and France (-6.5% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wool grease and fatty substances to Hungary, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany stood at +31.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+11.1% per year) and France (-5.5% per year).

The average wool grease import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 52% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
