Exports from Hungary

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of headgear of rubber or plastic decreased by -51.7% to X units in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 525%. The exports peaked at X units in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, plastic headgear exports declined sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 330% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Slovakia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Romania (X units) were the main destinations of plastic headgear exports from Hungary, together accounting for 52% of total exports. These countries were followed by Serbia, Bulgaria, Italy and Slovenia, which together accounted for a further 40%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Serbia (with a CAGR of +44.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for plastic headgear exported from Hungary were Slovakia ($X), Serbia ($X) and Romania ($X), together comprising 63% of total exports.

Serbia, with a CAGR of +51.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average plastic headgear export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 23% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary

In 2022, overseas purchases of headgear of rubber or plastic increased by 18% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -32.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic headgear imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Germany (X units) and France (X units) were the main suppliers of plastic headgear imports to Hungary, with a combined 69% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Hong Kong SAR, Belgium, Spain and Slovenia, which together accounted for a further 26%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +8.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest plastic headgear suppliers to Hungary, with a combined 67% share of total imports.

France, with a CAGR of +18.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average plastic headgear import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 16% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plastic headgear import price increased by +61.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 44%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while the price for Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovenia (+17.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
