In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for machinery for making up paper pulp, paper or paperboard exports from Hungary, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +26.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (+39.6% per year) and Slovakia (+10.9% per year).

In 2021, the average paper making machinery export price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 26% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of machinery for making up paper pulp, paper or paperboard imported into Hungary skyrocketed to X units, growing by 158% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 481% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, paper making machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 714%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Germany (X units), China (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main suppliers of paper making machinery imports to Hungary, together accounting for 87% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +48.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
