Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, South Africa, the UK, Bulgaria, Croatia and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +71.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Poland ($X per cubic meter) and Bulgaria ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per cubic meter) and South Africa ($X per cubic meter) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of MDF was finally on the rise to reach X cubic meters after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -19.2% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 62%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, MDF imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Germany (X cubic meters), Austria (X cubic meters) and Poland (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of MDF imports to Hungary, together accounting for 66% of total imports. Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, Latvia, the Czech Republic and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +42.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest MDF suppliers to Hungary were Germany ($X), Austria ($X) and Poland ($X), together accounting for 73% of total imports. Romania, Turkey, Latvia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Overall, import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, MDF import price increased by +79.5% against 2016 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while the price for France ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
