Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -12.7% against 2019 indices. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Ukraine (X tons), Romania (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of narrow woven fabric exports from Hungary, together accounting for 44% of total exports. Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Germany, Slovenia, Poland, Morocco, the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +157.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Romania ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for narrow woven fabric exported from Hungary worldwide, with a combined 36% share of total exports. In 2021, supplies from abroad of narrow woven fabrics increased by 11% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports showed a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 103%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Romania (X tons) constituted the largest narrow woven fabric supplier to Hungary, accounting for a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, narrow woven fabric imports from Romania exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 7.1% share.

In terms of the main suppliers, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +46.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average narrow woven fabric import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 291%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
