Natural Polymers Market Size in Hungary

The Hungarian natural polymers market rose remarkably to $X in 2021, growing by 5.8% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, exports recorded a temperate increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, natural polymers exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +47.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 61%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Romania (X tons) was the main destination for natural polymers exports from Hungary, with a 40% share of total exports. Moreover, natural polymers exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Denmark (X tons), fourfold. Slovakia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Romania totaled +6.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+0.6% per year) and Slovakia (+51.6% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for natural polymers exported from Hungary were Denmark ($X), Romania ($X) and Slovakia ($X), together accounting for 77% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +71.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average natural polymers export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -39.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 55% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell notably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+42.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of natural and modified natural polymers in primary forms increased by 9.3% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 23%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, natural polymers imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight decline. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), India (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of natural polymers imports to Hungary, together accounting for 44% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +138.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of natural and modified natural polymers in primary forms to Hungary, comprising 24% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Austria ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled -1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (-1.3% per year) and Denmark (+11.2% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
