Market Size for Optical Fibers, Bundles and Cables in Hungary

For the third consecutive year, the Hungarian market for optical fibers, bundles and cables recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by X% to $X in 2022. In general, the total consumption indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by X% against 2017 indices. Optical fiber, bundle and cable consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, optical fiber, bundle and cable production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

For the third year in a row, Hungary recorded growth in overseas shipments of optical fibers, bundles and cables, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, optical fiber, bundle and cable exports declined modestly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of optical fiber, bundle and cable exports from Hungary, together accounting for X% of total exports. The United States, France, Romania, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Portugal and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for optical fibers, bundles and cables exports from Hungary, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany totaled X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (X% per year) and the United States (X% per year).

In 2022, the average export price for optical fibers, bundles and cables amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary

In 2022, the amount of optical fibers, bundles and cables imported into Hungary dropped to X tons, falling by X% compared with 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (X% per year) and India (X% per year).
