Romania (X units), Austria (X units) and Slovakia (X units) were the main destinations of optical telescope exports from Hungary, together comprising 70% of total exports. These countries were followed by Croatia, Ukraine, Germany, Serbia and Italy, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +51.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average optical telescope export price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 36%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+16.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of optical telescopes, when their volume decreased by -8.9% to X units. Over the period under review, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +94.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, optical telescope imports declined notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 547%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest optical telescope supplier to Hungary, with a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, optical telescope imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Slovenia (X units), twofold. Poland (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +25.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovenia (-9.3% per year) and Poland (+9.8% per year).
In value terms, the largest optical telescope suppliers to Hungary were Slovenia ($X), China ($X) and Austria ($X), together comprising 60% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +25.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a notable increase.
