The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-cellular polyethylene film exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of non-cellular polyethylene film exports from Hungary, with a combined 50% share of total exports. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of non-cellular polyethylene films, sheets, foil and strip increased by 11% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 19%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-cellular polyethylene film imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest non-cellular polyethylene film supplier to Hungary, accounting for a 38% share of total imports. Moreover, non-cellular polyethylene film imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Poland (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled +1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+8.5% per year) and Poland (+7.5% per year).

The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany amounted to +2.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+12.0% per year) and Poland (+11.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average non-cellular polyethylene film import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 24% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
