Market Size for Primary Cells and Batteries in Hungary

The Hungarian primary cell and battery market dropped significantly to $X in 2022, waning by -22.9% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 270% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Romania (X units) was the main destination for primary cell and battery exports from Hungary, accounting for a 36% share of total exports. Moreover, primary cell and battery exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Croatia (X units), with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Romania stood at +13.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+8.8% per year) and Croatia (+59.9% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for primary cell and battery exported from Hungary were Romania ($X), Poland ($X) and Slovenia ($X), together comprising 45% of total exports. The Czech Republic, Germany, Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Italy and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Italy, with a CAGR of +82.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
