For the third year in a row, Hungary recorded decline in purchases abroad of rare earth metals, which decreased by -88.5% to X kg in 2021. Overall, imports faced a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 1,341%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, rare earth metal imports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 452% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X kg), the United States (X kg) and China (X kg) were the main suppliers of rare earth metal imports to Hungary.
