In 2022, exports of safety glass from Hungary was estimated at X square meters, surging by 3.7% on the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 13%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, safety glass exports rose modestly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X square meters), Belgium (X square meters) and Slovakia (X square meters) were the main destinations of safety glass exports from Hungary, together comprising 46% of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, France, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Austria, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Kosovo, which together accounted for a further 45%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kosovo (with a CAGR of +35.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for safety glass exported from Hungary were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Slovakia ($X), with a combined 44% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Romania, France, Croatia, Austria, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Kosovo, which together accounted for a further 44%.
Kosovo, with a CAGR of +60.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average safety glass export price amounted to $X per square meter, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 7.8%. The export price peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kosovo (+18.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of safety glass increased by 2.5% to X square meters, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +14.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, safety glass imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 29%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Germany (X square meters), China (X square meters) and Bulgaria (X square meters) were the main suppliers of safety glass imports to Hungary, together comprising 47% of total imports. Poland, Italy, Romania, Turkey, Slovakia, Denmark, Belgium, the Czech Republic and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +93.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of safety glass to Hungary, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany stood at +11.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+6.7% per year) and China (+22.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average safety glass import price amounted to $X per square meter, declining by -9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per square meter), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
