In 2021, the Hungarian copper sanitary ware market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. In general, consumption continues to indicate a remarkable increase. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 429%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper sanitary ware exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 2,233%. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X kg) was the main destination for copper sanitary ware exports from Hungary, accounting for a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, copper sanitary ware exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Serbia (X kg), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Slovakia (X kg), with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany totaled +31.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (+76.6% per year) and Slovakia (+51.9% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for sanitary ware and parts of copper exports from Hungary, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Serbia ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Albania, with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to +49.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (+74.2% per year) and Albania (+19.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average copper sanitary ware export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 101% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 495%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of sanitary ware and parts of copper were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 130% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, copper sanitary ware imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 42%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), China (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main suppliers of copper sanitary ware imports to Hungary, with a combined 89% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +65.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and China ($X) were the largest copper sanitary ware suppliers to Hungary, together comprising 91% of total imports.

Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
