Bed-Convertible Seat Market Size in Hungary

For the eighth consecutive year, the Hungarian bed-convertible seat market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 9.8% to $X in 2021. In general, the total consumption indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +114.3% against 2013 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of seats convertible into beds, when their volume decreased by -21.4% to X units. Overall, exports, however, saw modest growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 59% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Croatia (X units), Romania (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main destinations of bed-convertible seat exports from Hungary, together accounting for 83% of total exports. Austria, Bulgaria, the United States, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +97.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for bed-convertible seat exported from Hungary were Germany ($X), Romania ($X) and Croatia ($X), together accounting for 68% of total exports. The United States, Austria, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +88.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average bed-convertible seat export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -3.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+18.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary

In 2021, purchases abroad of seats convertible into beds decreased by -2.5% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 64%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X units) constituted the largest supplier of bed-convertible seat to Hungary, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, bed-convertible seat imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Slovakia (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Romania (X units), with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland totaled +19.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovakia (+16.3% per year) and Romania (+7.2% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of seats convertible into beds to Hungary, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland amounted to +21.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovakia (+11.4% per year) and Germany (+23.9% per year).

The average bed-convertible seat import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 28% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 41%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
