Silicon Dioxide Market Size in Hungary

The Hungarian silicon dioxide market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Overall, consumption continues to indicate prominent growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of silicon dioxide decreased by -22.8% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 78%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silicon dioxide exports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Montenegro (X tons) was the main destination for silicon dioxide exports from Hungary, accounting for a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, silicon dioxide exports to Montenegro exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Serbia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Romania (X tons), with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Montenegro amounted to +128.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (+3.5% per year) and Romania (+28.1% per year).

In value terms, Serbia ($X), Montenegro ($X) and Russia ($X) were the largest markets for silicon dioxide exported from Hungary worldwide, with a combined 59% share of total exports.

Montenegro, with a CAGR of +158.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average silicon dioxide export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Montenegro (+13.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary

Silicon dioxide imports into Hungary reached X tons in 2021, approximately mirroring 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silicon dioxide imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of silicon dioxide imports to Hungary, together accounting for 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Poland, Turkey, Spain and China, which together accounted for a further 23%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +250.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
