Over the period under review, the total production indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +34.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 23%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

For the third year in a row, Hungary recorded growth in overseas shipments of sugary soft drinks, which increased by 17% to X litres in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 61%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sugary soft drink exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Romania (X litres) was the main destination for sugary soft drink exports from Hungary, with a 22% share of total exports. Moreover, sugary soft drink exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Croatia (X litres), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Bulgaria (X litres), with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Romania totaled +17.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Croatia (+13.3% per year) and Bulgaria (+49.3% per year).

In value terms, Romania ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and Croatia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for sugary soft drink exported from Hungary worldwide, together comprising 42% of total exports. Slovakia, Greece, Serbia, India, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Austria and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

India, with a CAGR of +113.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sugary soft drink export price stood at $X per litre in 2022, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X litres of sugary soft drinks were imported into Hungary; surging by 5.6% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, the Czech Republic (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of sugary soft drink to Hungary, accounting for a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, sugary soft drink imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X litres), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Poland (X litres), with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Czech Republic totaled +23.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+8.1% per year) and Poland (+34.6% per year).

In value terms, the largest sugary soft drink suppliers to Hungary were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Austria ($X), with a combined 65% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Poland, with a CAGR of +23.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average sugary soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 11%. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per litre), while the price for Slovakia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
