Synthetic Rubber Market Size in Hungary

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Hungarian synthetic rubber market, when its value increased by 16% to $X. Overall, consumption saw a mild decrease. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, synthetic rubber exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of synthetic rubber exports from Hungary, together comprising 38% of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, China, Romania, Poland, Thailand, Brazil, Slovakia, France, Serbia and Russia, which together accounted for a further 49%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +20.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for synthetic rubber exported from Hungary were Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Spain ($X), together comprising 38% of total exports. Italy, China, Romania, Thailand, Poland, Brazil, Slovakia, Serbia, France and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 50%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +15.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average synthetic rubber export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Thailand ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (-3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, overseas purchases of synthetic rubber were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, synthetic rubber imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of synthetic rubber imports to Hungary, together accounting for 62% of total imports. France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Serbia, Poland, the UK, the Netherlands, Thailand and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +182.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest synthetic rubber suppliers to Hungary were Russia ($X), Germany ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 58% share of total imports. Italy, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the UK, Thailand, Serbia, Poland and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Among the main suppliers, Thailand, with a CAGR of +194.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average synthetic rubber import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
