Austria (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Croatia (X tons) were the main destinations of talcum powder exports from Hungary, with a combined 48% share of total exports.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of talcum powder and other powders for cosmetic use, when their volume decreased by -6.8% to X tons. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +47.1% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, talcum powder imports fell to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 94% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of talcum powder imports to Hungary, with a combined 52% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, India, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, the UK and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further 42%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in India (with a CAGR of +175.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of talcum powder to Hungary, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 10% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+19.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
