The Hungarian concrete tile market declined to $X in 2022, which is down by -11.6% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, posted strong growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, shipments abroad of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone decreased by -24.9% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 25%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concrete tile exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Slovakia (X tons) was the main destination for concrete tile exports from Hungary, with a 46% share of total exports. Moreover, concrete tile exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X tons), threefold. Serbia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Slovakia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (-2.7% per year) and Serbia (+10.3% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone exports from Hungary, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Serbia, with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Slovakia stood at +2.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (-0.2% per year) and Serbia (+9.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average concrete tile export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone increased by 2.2% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concrete tile imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 77%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Slovakia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of concrete tile to Hungary, with a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, concrete tile imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Romania (X tons), with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Slovakia amounted to +31.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+6.0% per year) and Romania (+18.3% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X), Poland ($X) and Austria ($X) appeared to be the largest concrete tile suppliers to Hungary, with a combined 70% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Poland, with a CAGR of +57.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average concrete tile import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 46%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
