In 2021, overseas purchases of yarn of wool were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, woolen yarn imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of woolen yarn to Hungary, with a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, woolen yarn imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fivefold. Romania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy amounted to -13.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-12.5% per year) and Romania (+10.7% per year).
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of yarn of wool to Hungary, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy totaled -13.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-13.1% per year) and Austria (+10.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average woolen yarn import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 56%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
