Vietnam (X tons) was the main destination for barley exports from India, accounting for a 38% share of total exports. In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the key foreign market for barley exports from India, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Vietnam totaled +11.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+83.0% per year) and Bangladesh (+45.9% per year).

In 2022, the average barley export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, barley export price increased by +80.6% against 2018 indices. Imports into India

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of barley increased by 944% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 4,588%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, barley imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 2,288% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Argentina (X tons), France (X tons) and Uruguay (X tons) were the main suppliers of barley imports to India, together comprising 98% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +61.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest barley suppliers to India were Argentina ($X), France ($X) and Uruguay ($X), together accounting for 98% of total imports.
