Base Station Market Size in India

The Indian base station market declined sharply to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -37.9% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, saw prominent growth. Base station consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, overseas shipments of base stations were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 795%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, base station exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 894% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for base station exports from India, with a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, base station exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hungary stood at +159.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+19.9% per year) and China (-9.9% per year).

In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the key foreign market for base stations exports from India, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Hungary totaled +173.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+36.9% per year) and China (-8.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average base station export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, base station export price increased by +56.6% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 18%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sri Lanka (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into India

Base station imports into India declined rapidly to X tons in 2021, waning by -27.5% on 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 333% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, base station imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 334% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Vietnam (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of base station to India, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, base station imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tons), sevenfold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Vietnam totaled +30.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+40.0% per year) and the United States (+22.5% per year).

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constituted the largest supplier of base stations to India, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Vietnam amounted to +26.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+44.1% per year) and the United States (+25.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average base station import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -13.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from Sweden ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) and Vietnam ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
