In value terms, bentonite exports declined slightly to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2018, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

Indonesia (X tons) was the main destination for bentonite exports from India, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, bentonite exports to Indonesia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), twofold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume to Indonesia totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+X% per year) and China (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for bentonite exported from India were Malaysia ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by China, Oman, South Korea, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Poland, Kuwait, Belgium and Bahrain, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Thailand recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, bentonite imports expanded slightly to $X in 2019. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked in 2019 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2019, Turkey (X tons) was the main bentonite supplier to India, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, bentonite imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Greece (X tons), fivefold. The U.S. (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+X% per year) and the U.S. (+X% per year).

Over the period under review, import price indicated a mild increase from 2007 to 2019: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2019 figures, bentonite import price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the U.S., while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
