In 2021, the Indian brassiere market decreased by -1.5% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, the total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +70.0% against 2016 indices. In general, the total production indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +70.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 31%. Brassiere production peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

The United States (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Austria (X units) were the main destinations of brassiere exports from India, with a combined 83% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Slovenia and Germany, which together accounted for a further 9.8%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Slovenia (with a CAGR of +148.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated exports from India, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Austria ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at -1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+4.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+2.5% per year).

In 2021, the average brassiere import price amounted to $X per unit, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 10%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Vietnam ($X per unit) and Indonesia ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) and Bangladesh ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
