China (X tons) was the main destination for pimenta pepper exports from India, with a 29% share of total exports. Moreover, pimenta pepper exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Thailand (X tons), twofold. Sri Lanka (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to China stood at +20.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+3.2% per year) and Sri Lanka (+1.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for pimenta pepper exports from India, comprising 29% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China totaled +28.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+10.3% per year) and Indonesia (+20.0% per year).

The average pimenta pepper export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2022, approx. X tons of pimenta pepper were imported into India; reducing by -13.4% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 586% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, pimenta pepper imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 294% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest pimenta pepper supplier to India, with a 36% share of total imports. Moreover, pimenta pepper imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Tanzania (X tons), with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at -2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+30.7% per year) and Tanzania (+41.1% per year).

The average pimenta pepper import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a temperate expansion.
