Candied Fruit Market Size in India

In 2021, after seven years of growth, there was decline in the Indian candied fruit market, when its value decreased by -1.6% to $X. In general, the total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Candied fruit consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

For the fifth consecutive year, India recorded growth in shipments abroad of candied fruits, which increased by 50% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports saw a strong expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, candied fruit exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Oman (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main destinations of candied fruit exports from India, with a combined 48% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, the United States, Saudi Arabia, France, Canada, Nepal, Australia, Qatar and the UK, which together accounted for a further 44%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +68.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Oman ($X), the United States ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for candied fruit exported from India worldwide, with a combined 39% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, Bangladesh, Canada, Saudi Arabia, France, Australia, the UK, Nepal and Qatar, which together accounted for a further 50%.

Nepal, with a CAGR of +39.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average candied fruit export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -8.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into India

In 2021, imports of candied fruits into India surged to X tons, growing by 54% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 216%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, candied fruit imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 194%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest candied fruit supplier to India, with a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, candied fruit imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X tons), with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +34.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+20.0% per year) and Turkey (+113.9% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of candied fruit to India, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 28% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 3.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +22.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+18.5% per year) and the Netherlands (-11.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average candied fruit import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -32.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
