Feldspar Market Size in India

In 2021, the Indian feldspar market decreased by -2.3% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a prominent increase. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, feldspar production contracted modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production enjoyed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 145% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Feldspar exports from India was estimated at X tons in 2021, picking up by 6.9% compared with the previous year. Overall, total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +79.3% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, feldspar exports totaled $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +65.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Bangladesh (X tons) was the main destination for feldspar exports from India, accounting for a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, feldspar exports to Bangladesh exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Indonesia (X tons), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Bangladesh stood at +14.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+10.9% per year) and Indonesia (-2.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for feldspar exported from India were Bangladesh ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 66% share of total exports.

Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +15.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average feldspar export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -2.6% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 43% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into India

In 2021, the amount of feldspar imported into India dropped significantly to X tons, reducing by -80.3% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a sharp decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 131%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, feldspar imports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 8.3%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of feldspar imports to India, with a combined 85% share of total imports. Malaysia and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +65.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of feldspar to India, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey totaled +27.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+11.1% per year) and China (-19.4% per year).

The average feldspar import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 201% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw prominent growth. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
