Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for filter block exports from India, accounting for a 33% share of total exports. Moreover, filter block exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mozambique (X tons), twofold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany totaled +96.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mozambique (+77.6% per year) and Russia (+25.7% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for filter block exported from India were Mexico ($X), Germany ($X) and Russia ($X), together comprising 55% of total exports.

Mexico, with a CAGR of +44,359.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average filter block export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 214% against the previous year. Filter block imports into India shrank significantly to X tons in 2022, falling by -33% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 180% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, filter block imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 134%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The UK (X tons), China (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of filter block imports to India, with a combined 55% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, South Korea and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +155.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of filter blocks, slabs and plates of paper pulp to India, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to +8.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+22.2% per year) and the UK (+54.0% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 65% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Switzerland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
