Lime Market Size in India

The Indian lime market expanded slightly to $X in 2021, rising by 4% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lime exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 158%. Nepal (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and Oman (X tons) were the main destinations of lime exports from India, together comprising 83% of total exports. Congo, Ghana, Bhutan and Sudan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.3%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ghana (with a CAGR of +53.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nepal ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and Oman ($X) constituted the largest markets for lime exported from India worldwide, together comprising 68% of total exports. These countries were followed by Congo, Ghana, Bhutan and Sudan, which together accounted for a further 13%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Ghana, with a CAGR of +78.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average lime export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 42%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bhutan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of lime decreased by -44% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lime imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 15%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Oman (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of lime imports to India, with a combined 94% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Oman (with a CAGR of +45.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Oman ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest lime suppliers to India, together accounting for 87% of total imports.

Oman, with a CAGR of +48.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average lime import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
