Linoleum Market Size in India

In 2021, the Indian linoleum market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. The average linoleum export price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, increasing by 25% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per square meter in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Sri Lanka ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+27.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of linoleum, when their volume increased by 140% to X square meters. In general, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 297%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, linoleum imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 215%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Myanmar (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of linoleum to India, accounting for a 31% share of total imports. Moreover, linoleum imports from Myanmar exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X square meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X square meters), with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Myanmar stood at +15.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-11.3% per year) and the Netherlands (-25.6% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 13%. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
