Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Kenya ($X per ton) and Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($X per ton) and Bangladesh ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Yemen (-1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, the amount of maize (corn) starch imported into India expanded sharply to X tons, with an increase of 15% on the year before. Overall, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 72%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, maize starch imports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 71%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of maize starch imports to India, together accounting for 45% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +52.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, France ($X), Belgium ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest maize starch suppliers to India, with a combined 57% share of total imports.

In 2021, the average maize starch import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -13.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 51% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
