Mango And Mangosteen Market Size in India

The Indian mango and mangosteen market declined to $X in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main destinations of mango and mangosteen exports from India, together comprising 36% of total exports. Nepal, the United States, Yemen, the UK, Kuwait, Germany, Oman, Sudan, Indonesia and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +23.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest markets for mango and mangosteen exported from India worldwide, together accounting for 36% of total exports. The United States, the UK, Yemen, Germany, Kuwait, Oman, China, Sudan, Nepal and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

Oman, with a CAGR of +22.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average mango and mangosteen export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into India

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas increased by 100% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Nepal (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of mango and mangosteen imports to India, together accounting for 72% of total imports. Malawi, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and Kenya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Malawi (with a CAGR of +154.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest mango and mangosteen suppliers to India were Thailand ($X), Malawi ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 88% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Malawi, with a CAGR of +159.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average mango and mangosteen import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mango and mangosteen import price increased by +78.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 63% against the previous year.
