Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, marble and travertine exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

The UK (X tons), China (X tons) and Nepal (X tons) were the main destinations of marble and travertine exports from India, with a combined 62% share of total exports. Egypt, the United States, Ireland, France, Bangladesh, Italy and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Imports into India
In 2021, approx. X tons of marble and travertine were imported into India; picking up by 65% on 2020. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 68%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Moreover, marble and travertine imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), fourfold. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey stood at +17.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-7.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+208.8% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of marble and travertine to India, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey amounted to +11.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-11.2% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+179.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average marble and travertine import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 6.3% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
