The United States (X tons) was the main destination for prophylactic medicaments containing insulin exports from India, accounting for a 24% share of total exports. Moreover, prophylactic medicaments containing insulin exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), threefold. Peru (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.3% share.

In general, the export price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 52%. For the eleventh year in a row, India recorded growth in purchases abroad of medicaments containing insulin but not antibiotics in measured doses, which increased by 8.8% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 83% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, prophylactic medicaments containing insulin imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 13%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
Brazil (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) were the main suppliers of prophylactic medicaments containing insulin imports to India, with a combined 80% share of total imports. Belgium, France, Malaysia and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
