In 2022, approx. X tons of seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing were imported into India; reducing by -33.1% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 77%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, imports of seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Thailand (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main suppliers of imports of seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing to India, together comprising 63% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +75.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) constituted the largest supplier of seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing to India, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Afghanistan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 14% share.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
