As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, potassium hydroxide exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 137%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main destinations of potassium hydroxide exports from India, together accounting for 50% of total exports. Bangladesh, Ghana, Brazil, Qatar, Kenya, Argentina, South Africa, Nepal and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +193.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for potassium hydroxide exported from India were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together comprising 48% of total exports. Ghana, Bangladesh, Brazil, Argentina, Kenya, Qatar, South Africa, Nepal and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +173.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average potassium hydroxide export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 63% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a slight downturn. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Argentina (+20.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into India

For the third consecutive year, India recorded growth in purchases abroad of potassium hydroxide (caustic potash), which increased by 32% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 249%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, potassium hydroxide imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 151% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Korea (X tons) constituted the largest potassium hydroxide supplier to India, accounting for a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, potassium hydroxide imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fourfold.

The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
