Pumpkin Market Size in India

The Indian pumpkin market rose sharply to $X in 2022, increasing by 5.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Pumpkin Production in India

In value terms, pumpkin production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. Pumpkin production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The average yield of pumpkin (squash and gourds) in India totaled X tons per ha in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the year before. Overall, the yield, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of less than 0.1% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, pumpkin exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 280%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Bhutan (X tons) were the main destinations of pumpkin exports from India, with a combined 51% share of total exports.

From 2013 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bhutan (with a CAGR of +508.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the UK ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for pumpkin (squash and gourds) exports from India, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 14% share.

From 2013 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the UK stood at +187.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+181.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+20.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average pumpkin export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 62%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bhutan (+24.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
