In general, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -21.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports from India, with a combined 21% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +41.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Australia ($X) constituted the largest markets for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exported from India worldwide, with a combined 17% share of total exports.

Imports into India

In 2021, the amount of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imported into India surged to X tons, growing by 16% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at -9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-0.4% per year) and the Netherlands (-1.2% per year).

The average import price for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -10.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
