The United States (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main destinations of twine and cordage exports from India, with a combined 28% share of total exports. Turkey, Norway, Morocco, the Netherlands, Singapore, Canada, Ghana, the UK, Australia and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

In 2022, the average twine and cordage export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 21%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, purchases abroad of twine, cordage, rope and cables increased by 7.7% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, twine and cordage imports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Bangladesh (X tons) constituted the largest twine and cordage supplier to India, accounting for a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, twine and cordage imports from Bangladesh exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fourfold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Bangladesh totaled +7.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+6.0% per year) and Thailand (+15.4% per year).
In value terms, Bangladesh ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the largest twine and cordage suppliers to India, together comprising 60% of total imports. The United States, the United Arab Emirates, Germany and Nepal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.2%.
In terms of the main suppliers, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +22.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average twine and cordage import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -6.2% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, twine and cordage import price increased by +60.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 45%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
