In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of vices and clamps, when their volume decreased by -61.5% to X tons. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, vices and clamps exports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 22%. The United States (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of vices and clamps exports from India, together accounting for 36% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, Italy, Australia, the UK, Russia, Nepal, Mexico, Sweden, Spain and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nepal (with a CAGR of +59.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for vices and clamps exports from India, comprising 19% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with an 8% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at -5.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-15.7% per year) and Germany (-8.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average vices and clamps export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 8.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 65% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into India
In 2022, overseas purchases of vices and clamps increased by 35% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vices and clamps imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest vices and clamps supplier to India, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, vices and clamps imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-1.1% per year) and the United States (+4.1% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vices and clamps to India, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +5.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+0.9% per year) and Germany (-8.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average vices and clamps import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
