In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood exports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Nepal (X cubic meters) was the main destination for preservative-treated rough wood exports from India, accounting for a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, preservative-treated rough wood exports to Nepal exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Oman (X cubic meters), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Nepal stood at +38.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+3.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+10.3% per year).

In value terms, Nepal ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for preservative-treated rough wood exports from India, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Nepal stood at +149.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+13.6% per year) and Oman (-25.4% per year).

In 2021, the average preservative-treated rough wood export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, reducing by -9.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 150% against the previous year. In 2021, approx. X cubic meters of preservative-treated rough wood were imported into India; with an increase of 123% compared with 2020. Overall, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a buoyant expansion. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Nigeria (X cubic meters), Malaysia (X cubic meters) and the United States (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of preservative-treated rough wood imports to India, with a combined 65% share of total imports. South Africa, Belgium, Brazil, the UK and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +138.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of preservative-treated rough wood to India, comprising 40% of total imports.
